Have you been experiencing unexplained symptoms after a car accident? While some car accident injuries like cuts and broken bones are fairly obvious, others may remain hidden. Here are 3 types of injuries you may not know you have:
Whiplash, or neck strain may take hours or days to show up. Whiplash can cause neck pain, decreased range of motion and tension in the neck, tenderness, and headaches.
Depending on the severity of your condition, you may need to ice the area, apply moist heat (after a few days of icing, once the swelling has been reduced), take painkillers or other drugs, support your neck with a brace or collar, or seek other treatments administered by a medical professional.
2. Traumatic brain injury
This includes, but is not limited, to concussions. Some head injuries do not result in open wounds, but they can still result in mild to severe damage. Medical News Today says a traumatic brain injury, caused by “sudden, violent blow or jolt to the head”, can result in “possible bruising of the brain, tearing of nerve fibers and bleeding”.
This type of injury can have both physical and psychological effects, but signs may not show up for days or weeks. Treatment can range from caution in resuming normal activities to medication and even, in a few cases, surgery.
3. Spinal Injuries
The Legal Examiner reports that, in addition to whiplash and traumatic brain injuries, spinal trauma or other injuries may take some time to manifest in noticeable pain. The pain may also be felt in surprising areas like your foot, though your spine is the source of the discomfort.
